About Us

What Is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is FUN with a PURPOSE! The parents and leaders work together towards turning these boys into young men by developing their character, citizenship, personal fitness, and having lots of fun and adventure in the process!

Cub Scout Pack 82 is part of the Thunderbird District, which services the South/Southwest Austin area for the Capitol Area Council (a 15-county area surrounding Austin) of the Boy Scouts of America. Pack 82 was first chartered in 1991, and our chartering organization is the Shady Hollow Homeowners’ Association. Our main recruiting location is Baranoff Elementary, but Pack 82 membership is open to any family, from any school, in any neighborhood -- as are all Cub Scout packs.

For the 2012-2013 school year, Pack 82 membership consists of over 100 boys in grades 1st through 5th. We currently have:

  • 3 Tiger Cub dens (1st grade)
  • 3 Wolf dens (2nd grade)
  • 3 Bear dens (3rd grade)
  • 5 Webelos I dens (4th grade)
  • 2 Webelos II dens (5th grade)
  • ...plus room for you!

Each den ranges in size from 4 to 8 boys and arrange their own den meetings according to the schedules of all the den parents.

We conduct many events throughout the year, including several summertime activities! Some of our regular events: Campouts, USS Lexington Live Aboard, NASA Camp-In, Parades, Pool Party, Blue & Gold Banquet, Pinewood Derby, Space Derby, Raingutter Regatta, plus many more!

Our monthly Pack Meetings are typically on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7pm at the Shady Hollow Community Center, 3303 Doe Run, from September thru May. We do not hold Pack Meetings during the summer, and in February, we have our Blue & Gold celebration during the month in lieu of a Pack Meeting. Our Pack 82 Committee Meetings are typically on the last Monday of each month at 7pm, and parents and interested guests are welcome and encouraged to attend!
